Synopsis The Regional Dialogue is jointly organized by the WIPO Singapore Office (WSO), the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO Center) in collaboration with the Government of Singapore, under its Singapore Cooperation Program (SCP), through the Technical Cooperation Directorate (TCD) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Regional Dialogue aims to provide a platform for IP Offices in Southeast Asia to share and exchange their experiences on ADR as well as be updated on IP dispute resolution trends and processes. The WIPO Center will provide practical information on how WIPO Mediation may be utilized by IP Offices and businesses and share its experience of administering disputes in ASEAN and its insights into the future of ADR in ASEAN. Dialogue participants will also gain insights into the cases already settled under the ASEAN Mediation Program (AMP) – a support scheme for disputing parties in ASEAN to resolve their own disputes through the use of WIPO Mediation, as administered by the WIPO Center. Moreover, the Regional Dialogue will provide an opportunity for participants to enhance their knowledge and understanding of how ADR, including WIPO ADR services, can meaningfully reduce the burden of disputes which can arise in the ordinary course of business. Based on the WIPO ADR Options – Guide for IP Offices and Courts and the experiences shared by the participating ASEAN IP Offices, there will be an opportunity to develop best practices in relation to ADR for IP disputes.
Furthermore, participants will benefit from a visit to IPOS and take part in the IPOS 360 program as well as in the Global Forum on Intellectual Property which will take place during IP Week @ SG 2024 -- especially the panel discussions under legal track on (i) the Successful Alternative: Dispute Resolution for IP and Tech as well as (ii) the Open Secret: Embracing Innovation vs Safeguarding Confidentiality. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend the WIPO-IPOS IP for Innovation Awards, with H.E. Mr. Edwin Tong SC, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, to deliver the opening address. |
